Every two years, delegates from IAOPA's affiliates convene at the World Assembly to set policy priorities and elect regional leadership. The Executive Board — the chief executives of every affiliate — meets alongside it, with regional meetings held semi-annually in between.
The IAOPA World Assembly
Every two years, the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations holds a World Assembly, where delegates from over 80 affiliate organizations work to develop policies that move general aviation forward. Issues affecting general aviation worldwide are addressed through discussions, expert speakers, presentations, and panel sessions — including environmental concerns, access to airports and airspace, user fees and taxes, and aviation safety.
At the World Assembly, delegates can submit resolutions related to the promotion of general aviation. Previous resolutions have focused on ICAO regulations, national rules, and specific issues in local aviation communities; after all resolutions are presented and discussed, IAOPA affiliates vote on whether each one passes. There have been 31 World Assemblies to date, each hosted by a different IAOPA affiliate — past locations include South Africa, Israel, Greece, France, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and New Zealand.
